Exclusive | How Travis Kelce came to own Swift Delivery, a racehorse named after Taylor Swift
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end shares the story behind his unique investment
From the moment he laid eyes on a yearling thoroughbred named Gormley, Travis Kelce knew he had to have him.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end had always been a fan of horse racing, and he had been looking for the perfect horse to invest in. And when he saw Gormley, he knew he had found him.
“He was just a beautiful horse,” Kelce said. “He had a great pedigree, and I could just tell he was going to be a winner.”
Kelce bought Gormley for $200,000 in 2017, and the horse has since gone on to win over $1 million in prize money. But what makes Gormley even more special to Kelce is the fact that he is named after one of his favorite singers, Taylor Swift.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor Swift,” Kelce said. “Her music is always so positive and inspiring, and I thought it would be a cool way to honor her.”
Kelce is not the only celebrity to own a racehorse named after a famous person. Other stars who have named horses after celebrities include:
- Will Smith
- Justin Timberlake
- Jay-Z
- Beyoncé
- Oprah Winfrey
Kelce said he is excited to see what the future holds for Swift Delivery. He believes the horse has the potential to be a champion, and he is looking forward to watching him race for many years to come.
“I’m just so grateful to have him in my life,” Kelce said. “He’s a special horse, and I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes.”
