Sinner Sends Berrettini Spinning

Sinner sends Berrettini spinning

Italian advances to third round with Wimbledon Centre Court triumph

No 10 seed Jannik Sinner reached the third round of Wimbledon with a 3-6 6-3 6-4 6-3 victory over 11th seed Matteo Berrettini.

The 20-year-old Italian, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals last year, will face Germany's Yannick Hanfmann in the next round.

Sinner has now won 12 of his 15 matches at Wimbledon and is looking to reach the second week of the tournament for the third time.

Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist, was looking to reach the third round for the fourth time but was unable to match Sinner's power and consistency.

"It was a tough match," said Sinner. "Matteo is a great player and he was playing well today. I'm just happy to have come through in the end."

Berrettini said: "I'm disappointed to lose but Jannik played very well today. He's a great player and he's going to be a tough opponent for anyone."
