Mid-Engine Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car Debuts

Engineered by Nicola Materazzi with Styling by Pininfarina

Maranello, Italy - The Ferrari F40 made its debut today as a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car engineered by Nicola Materazzi with styling by Pininfarina. The F40 is the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione and was built between 1987 and 1992. The F40 was designed to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary and is considered one of the most iconic supercars of all time. The F40 is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 478 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels. The F40 has a top speed of 201 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The F40 was produced in a limited edition of 1,315 units, and its original price was $400,000. Today, the F40 is considered a valuable collector's item, with some examples selling for over $1 million.
