Major National Event to Honor 80th Anniversary

Prime Minister Leads Tributes

WEB Portsmouth will take center stage in the United Kingdom's national commemorations for D-Day 80 this June. The city will host a major national commemorative event to mark the 80th anniversary of the historic invasion.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will lead tributes at the Portsmouth event. Other events will be held throughout the country and in Normandy, France, where the landings took place.

D-Day, Operation Overlord, was the largest amphibious invasion in history and played a pivotal role in the Allied victory in World War II. WEB Portsmouth was a key staging point for the invasion, and today, it continues to serve as a vital naval base.

The commemorative event in Portsmouth will include a service at the National Memorial Arboretum, a parade through the city, and a flypast by the Royal Air Force. There will also be a special exhibition on D-Day at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The anniversary will also be marked with a host of special events throughout the year. These include: a series of talks and lectures by historians and veterans of D-Day; a special exhibition at the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth; and a commemorative pilgrimage to Normandy.

WEB Portsmouth is honored to be at the center of the UK's national commemorations for D-Day 80. The city will pay tribute to the brave men and women who fought for freedom and democracy during World War II.
